Civil War Era Accessories

At one of our shows, a customer was looking for items to wear as a civil war civilian re-enactor. I had a cotton shawl which could be used if made larger and fringe added. I keep researching items to make including Fascinators (a type of shawl), more capes, purses, mitts, garters, collars and designing more snoods/hairnets, If anyone has any special needs or requests, please email questions@landysforgifts.com. Octagonal Cap (Hip Length)

Floral Snood/Hair Net

Velveteen Snood/Hairnet
A original design done in a velveteen yarn with a braided headband. Through research, I have found many hairnets and headbands were made of velvet. Shown in black. Click on item to see from other views.

Sontag/Bosom Friend or Buddy
A sontag or bosom buddy/friend is a jacket that has long ends crossing over the front and tying at the back. Ours is 20" long at the back, starting at 10" across at bottom and expanding to 20" wide at shoulders, the ends are 36" long with ties that are 25" long. There is a loop in underneath the back of garment to thread ties through to keep back in place. The garment is shown in antique white with medium and dark blue trim on either end.

Hooded Scarf

A hooded scarf made with a kettled hand dyed 100% wool which gives slight variation in the coloring of the garment. The scarf is approximately 36 " long (18" each side of hood), the hood about 18" deep and about 12" long. Scarf is shown in the color-browns.
